A FIVE-YEAR project finally came to fruition when the Biggar and Upper Clydesdale Museum opened its doors for the first time on Tuesday.
The £1.8m facility in the High Street brings together under one roof the town’s three museums from Moat Park, Gladstone Court and Green Hill.
The Clyde Wind Farm Community Fund put up £720,000 of the money with cash also coming from local appeals, private charities, and the sale of buildings.
“It’s taken a long time as we were turned by the Heritage Lottery for funding.ing next week. It makes it so much easier that the museums will now all be run from the same building, said curator Suzanne Rigg.
“There is so much for visitors to look at and my favourite is the Gladstone Court streetscape which is a re-creation of Edwardian and Victorian shops and street.” Biggar Museum Trust runs the new facility. A spokesman said: “We hope that the new museum will not only act as an important educational resource but as an exciting new attraction which will encourage people to visit both Biggar and Upper Clydesdale.” Opening hours are: Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. Tickets are £5 adult, £4 concession, £2 child and £12 family.
