PEEBLES pupils enjoyed a clean sweep at the recent regional mountain bike championships.

Priorsford Primary raced to victory in the junior event.

And it was Peebles High who emerged from the Bowhill forests as senior winners.

The Borders Mountain Bike Championships, which are organised by the Scottish Borders Cycling Development Group are open to pupils from primary three all the way up to sixth year secondary students.

As well as individual races the championships offer an exciting team format for each school.

A tough one kilometre hilly circuit challenged the younger riders.

And the older pedallers faced a tough 2.2 kilometre course.

Peebles High beat Kelso High to the senior title with Hawick High claiming third place.

Priorsford Primary beat St Ronan’s Primary to the finishing line in the primary schools event.

Live Borders chief executive Ewan Jackson was delighted with the competition. He said: “The Scottish Borders boasts some of the best mountain bike facilities in the UK and that was very much in evidence at this year’s event which showcased the skills of these talented young riders.”
