VALE manager Chris Anderson hopes his players can cause the shock of the Scottish Cup first round tomorrow - and make it five wins in a row.

The Victoria Park team are already proving to be the dark horses of this season's Lowland League.

But Anderson, despite having a fully fit squad to pick from, admits his side will be major underdogs for the clash against league leaders East Kilbride.

He said: “We have nothing to lose... nobody is expecting us to win.

"You only have to look at the league to see how well they are doing, this will be our toughest match so far this season but it's the Scottish Cup so we'll still go there and enjoy ourselves.

“With the exception of one match we have played really well this season and East Kilbride shouldn’t write us off."

East Kilbride reached the fifth round of the competition last season, where they were eventually knocked out by Celtic.

Another team who reached the fifth round, Linlithgow Rose, are heading towards the Borders for their first round match.

Rose have suffered consecutive East Super League defeats over the past fortnight to Kelty and Bo’ness.

But their exploits in last year’s competition, where they were eventually beaten by Ross County, will make them hot favourites against Selkirk.

Souters boss Garry O’Connor believes his team will be difficult to beat on home soil.

Following his side’s 7-4 victory over East Stirlingshire on Saturday, he said: “We have scored 14 goals in our last two home games so they shouldn’t think they can come here and get it easy.

“We know we have to defend better but if we can tighten up at the back we have a really good chance of getting through.”

Gala Fairydean Rovers manager Steven Noble has been buoyed by his team’s last two wins over Preston Athletic and Heston Rovers.

But he admits Fraserburgh will be a much stiffer test in tomorrow's Scottish Cup first round, having lost only one of their opening nine Highland League matches this season.

Noble hopes a vociferous home support at Netherdale will lift his team to glory. He said: “We need a big support to get behind us on Saturday.

“Fraserburgh will go into this as favourites and we know we’ll have to raise our game if we want to get through.”

The Highland League outfit have an impressive pedigree in the national cup competition having recently beaten Dalbeattie Star, Edinburgh City and Civil Service Strollers as well as Division Two side Montrose.

Last season they performed well before losing out 3-1 to Falkirk.

Hawick Royal Albert travel to Edinburgh to face Civil Service Strollers.

Dean Shanks takes his team to the same ground where they won their opening Lowland League match 5-0.

Albert secretary Dougie Purves said: “We have been doing reasonably well this season but we know we have to work on our defending.

“This is a winnable tie but we can’t make any silly mistakes.”

All of Saturday’s William Hill Scottish Cup first round matches kick off at 3pm.

*Peebles Rovers will travel to Fife tomorrow looking for their first East of Scotland League points under new manager Gerry Rossi.

Hosts Burntisland Shipyard have some suffered a few heavy defeats of late.
