Continued acts of vandalism over a prolonged period have cost the club financially.

But now with the support of local councillors the work, which includes the installation of security lights, has been completed. Cameras are due to be fitted in the near future.

The East of Scotland club are now looking at funding opportunities to install at 3G playing surface.

Vale’s general manager, Bobbie Craigie, said: “On average about £1,000 a year is spent on repairing vandalism, which has included graffiti removal, clear up of broken glass, damage to dugouts, broken fences and slabs, and on one occasion the starting of a fire in the stand.

“Following years of canvassing and with support and funding via our local councillors, Scottish Borders Council has erected a fence to enclose the pitch at Victoria Park.

“The fence, as well meeting the requirements of our SFA licence, will hopefully reduce the amount of vandalism the park has experienced over the years.

“The club are working to improve and secure the facilities and security lights have been fitted with cameras to be fitted shortly.

“The park is still regarded as one of the most scenic in the leagues and we get many online comments about the hospitality visiting fans get from the people of Innerleithen and we will continue to promote the club and town.
